Fall of Princes by John Lydgate England, probably London, c. 1465–75 Boccaccio Writing. Fall of Princes, a prose translation and commentary on a work by the fourteenth-century Italian writer Boccaccio, describes the tragedies of various worldly men. In this miniature, Boccaccio is seated at an angled writing desk holding a quill and a penknife to erase mistakes. Three elegantly dressed characters from his story appear before him.
